Why Specify Short-Pile Turf for Bocce
Bocce is defined by the court surface — every ball interaction depends on the roll, bounce and friction characteristics of the ground beneath it. Relyir’s short-pile turf eliminates the dust, mud and uneven patches that plague traditional clay and soil courts.
The 25 mm pile at 27,300 tufts/m² creates a firm, level surface where bocce balls roll true without unexpected deviation. The dense fiber structure prevents hollow spots and uneven patches that affect ball trajectory on natural surfaces.
Surface friction and pile density control how the ball responds to throws, including lofted shots (volo). Consistent surface characteristics mean players develop repeatable technique regardless of weather or season.
Unlike clay or crushed-shell courts, synthetic turf produces no dust in dry weather and no mud in rain. Perforated backing drains water through the carpet so courts return to play quickly after storms — with no raking or resurfacing required.
Gama de Productos
Bocce courts benefit from a short, dense pile that delivers firm ball contact. Mesh Adventure 25 is the primary recommendation for standard courts, offering a balance of roll speed and surface comfort.
| Modelo | Alto de Pelo | Hilo | Densidad | Calibre | Tasa de Puntadas | Reverso | Colores |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh Adventure 25 | 25 mm | Monofilamento de PE | 27.300 hebras/m² | 3/8″ | 26/10 cm | PP + PP (PU opcional) | Verde oliva / blanco |
Roll sizes: 4 × 25 m or 2 × 25 m, maximum roll width 5 m. Custom pile heights, densities and colors available on request. Full datasheets — including yarn weight and total weight — are provided with your quotation.
Diseño de rendimiento
Traditional bocce courts are built on soil, clay, asphalt or crushed oyster shell — surfaces that demand a weekly cycle of raking, watering and rolling to maintain playability. Synthetic turf eliminates this maintenance burden while delivering more consistent ball behavior across the entire court, season after season.
The 25 mm pile height of Mesh Adventure 25 sits at the intersection of two requirements: short enough for the ball to roll freely on top of the fibers, yet dense enough at 27,300 tufts/m² to prevent the surface from feeling hard underfoot. A light sand dressing stabilizes the pile and fine-tunes court speed to the club’s preference.
Official regulation courts measure up to 27.5 m × 4 m, but recreational and backyard courts are built at varying dimensions. Our turf rolls in 2 m and 4 m widths minimize seam count across standard court sizes.
The PP backing with optional PU coating provides dimensional stability and moisture resistance — important for outdoor courts exposed to rain and ground moisture. Perforated drainage holes ensure water passes through the carpet rather than pooling on the playing surface.
For projects where maximum ball speed is desired — competition-grade courts — pile height and sand dressing can be adjusted to produce a faster playing surface. Relyir supplies specification documentation and works with your installer through the project.
A bocce court surface requires a level base and short-pile turf for true ball behavior. We supply the turf and provide installation guidance tailored to your court dimensions.
A compacted stone or asphalt base, leveled to strict flatness tolerances. Any surface irregularity translates directly to ball deviation on a bocce court.
The short-pile carpet is fully bonded to the base. Seams are taped and glued, with court lines either tufted or inlaid to regulation dimensions.
A minimal sand dressing stabilizes the pile and controls surface speed. The amount is less than a tennis court — bocce needs the ball to roll freely on top of the fibers.
Timber, concrete or composite borders frame the court and contain the playing surface. Turf is trimmed and secured to the border edge for a clean finish.
A synthetic bocce court eliminates the weekly cycle of raking, watering and rolling that natural-surface courts require. Occasional brushing and debris removal is all the maintenance needed to keep the surface playing true throughout its service life.
For recreational and backyard courts, 25 mm pile (Mesh Adventure 25) gives a good balance of ball roll and surface comfort. For competition-grade courts where maximum ball speed is desired, pile height and sand dressing are adjusted to produce a firmer, faster surface.
Short-pile turf provides a consistent bounce that players can learn and predict. Unlike clay or soil courts that develop hollow spots over time, synthetic turf maintains uniform surface friction across the entire court, season after season.
Yes. Existing asphalt, concrete or compacted-stone courts can be overlaid with synthetic turf. The key requirement is a level base — any unevenness in the substrate shows through in ball behavior. Surface preparation is critical for bocce.
Minimal maintenance compared to natural surfaces. Regular sweeping or leaf blowing to remove debris, occasional brushing to keep fibers upright, and an annual inspection of seams and borders. No watering, raking or resurfacing is required.
Official regulation courts are up to 27.5 m × 4 m, but recreational and backyard courts can be built at any size. Our turf rolls come in 4 m and 2 m widths, and can be custom-cut to minimize waste on non-standard court dimensions.
Standard rolls are 4 × 25 m or 2 × 25 m with a maximum width of 5 m. Custom pile heights, densities and colors are available on request. Court line markings can be tufted or inlaid during installation.
