Sports Turf Systems
50 mm PE monofilament designed for facilities hosting multiple sports on one surface. Factory-direct from Relyir since 2006.
Why Specify 50 mm Monofilament for Multi-Sport
Multi-sport fields must deliver acceptable performance across several disciplines — not perfection for one. The turf balances ball behavior, player safety and wear resistance for every sport the field hosts, from football to lacrosse to community fitness events.
A 50 mm pile with sand and rubber infill provides a middle ground: enough cushion for rugby tackling, adequate ball roll for football, and sufficient firmness for field hockey stick-ball contact. The infill mix is tuned to the primary sport mix the field will host.
School and municipal fields host training sessions, matches and community events almost every day. Dense PE monofilament at 10,500 tufts/m² with reinforced three-layer backing is engineered to withstand that workload and UV exposure without fiber breakdown.
Multi-sport fields carry line sets for several codes. White and colored lines are tufted directly into the carpet during production, avoiding painted markings that wear off and need repainting each season — the lines last the life of the carpet.
Product Range
Our multi-sport family uses the proven 50 mm platform — the same pile height specified for football, rugby and lacrosse — with five distinct blade structures and colorways. All models share reinforced three-layer backing with optional PU coating upgrade.

Roll sizes: 4 × 25 m or 2 × 25 m, maximum roll width 5 m. Multi-sport line markings tufted during production. Full datasheets — including yarn weight and total weight — are provided with your quotation.
Performance Design
A multi-sport field that serves football on Saturday, rugby on Sunday and school athletics during the week needs turf that recovers between sessions. The five Relyir blade profiles — diamond, stem, double-stem and two wave variants — each respond differently to the multi-directional forces that different sports create.
Diamond-profile fibers resist flattening under repeated foot traffic, keeping the field looking and playing consistently in high-wear zones. Stem and wave profiles offer a softer underfoot feel that some operators prefer for community-use surfaces where comfort matters alongside performance.
All five models sit on the same 3/4″ gauge and 10,500 tufts/m² density platform, which means the switch from one profile to another is a matter of sport-mix preference and visual identity, not a structural rebuild.
Multi-sport fields often reference the standards of the primary sport they host. Fields prioritizing football can target FIFA Quality Programme testing; those hosting rugby address World Rugby Regulation 22 head-injury criteria (HIC). A shock pad is strongly recommended to meet impact absorption requirements across different sports.
Beyond the fiber, the three-layer backing — polypropylene, reinforcing mesh cloth, and a second polypropylene layer — is what anchors every tuft and transfers load across the carpet. An optional PU coating adds moisture resistance for tropical climates.
Factory Direct from Jiangsu
Relyir has manufactured artificial grass in Jiangsu since 2006. Every step — from raw PE pellets to finished rolls — runs on-site, which is how we control quality and hold pricing 30–50% below international equivalents.
All eight production stages are managed in-house, eliminating the quality gaps that arise when compounding, tufting and coating happen in separate facilities. The automated sports turf line, commissioned in 2015, lifted production capacity by 150% and tightened consistency across high-volume orders.
Customization is built into the line: blade density, pile height and fiber colors are adjusted to each project’s specification, with PP + net and PU backing options. The export team has shipped to more than 500 customers across 50+ countries since 2009 and handles all documentation — from commercial invoices to certificates of origin.
System Build-Up
The multi-sport system mirrors the football 3G build but is tuned for broader use. Infill ratios and shock pad selection are adjusted to the sport mix the field will host.
A permeable compacted base with drainage channels supports the system and moves water away from the surface efficiently.
An elastic shock pad is commonly specified for multi-sport fields to meet safety thresholds across different sports — particularly where rugby or athletics share the pitch.
Silica sand, roughly 20–30 kg/m², anchors the fibers and keeps the system stable under multi-directional traffic from different sports.
SBR, TPE or organic infill adds cushion and ball response. The infill type and loading are selected based on which sports dominate the field’s usage calendar.
Every Relyir multi-sport turf ships with perforated backing — drainage holes punched during our dedicated perforating step — so water moves through the carpet into the stone base rather than pooling on the surface.
Pair the system with routine brushing and periodic infill top-up, and the field maintains match-ready conditions through its full service life. UV-stabilized PE fibers resist degradation under prolonged sun exposure across all climate zones.
A 50 mm pile system can accommodate football, rugby, field hockey, lacrosse, American football and athletics training on the same surface. The key is tuning the infill mix and shock pad to the primary sports. We review your usage plan before recommending a configuration.
Both FIFA Quality and World Rugby Regulation 22 certify the installed system through field testing. A well-designed 50 mm pile with appropriate shock pad can be configured to support both testing programs, though each requires separate field-test certification by accredited institutes.
We tuft permanent line markings directly into the carpet during production — white, yellow or colored fibers for different sports. Tufted lines last the life of the carpet and do not require repainting, unlike surface-painted alternatives.
Different sports create different wear patterns — football studs, hockey sticks, rugby scrums. Our 50 mm PE monofilament is designed for uprightness recovery after compression, and the 10,500 tufts/m² density provides enough fiber to distribute wear across the surface.
SBR crumb rubber with silica sand is the standard 3G configuration. For projects in regions with microplastic regulations, TPE or organic infills (cork, coconut) are alternatives. The infill choice affects cushion, ball bounce and surface temperature — we help you evaluate the trade-offs.
A shock pad is strongly recommended for multi-sport fields. It helps the system meet impact absorption requirements for rugby (HIC under World Rugby Regulation 22) and adds player comfort for all sports sharing the field.
