Why Homeowners Choose Synthetic Greens

Practice Anytime, Right Outside Your Door

A backyard putting green eliminates the drive to the course and the wait for a tee time. The surface is ready whenever you are — early morning, after dinner, weekends in the rain.

True Ball Roll at Home

Curled PE yarn at 15 mm pile creates a firm, fast surface where putts track true. Stimp speeds are tunable with sand infill depth, letting you dial in the pace you want to practice.

Zero Mowing, Zero Watering

Natural bentgrass or bermudagrass greens demand daily mowing, irrigation and fertilization. A synthetic backyard green needs only occasional brushing and debris removal to stay in playing condition year-round.

Fits Any Yard Layout

From a compact 10 m² chipping pad to a multi-hole 100 m² short-game complex, Relyir cuts panels to your dimensions and ships them ready for on-site seaming and cup installation.

Golf Flat Curly Sunny — Two Variants

Both variants share a 15 mm curled PE monofilament platform designed for putting surfaces. The tight curl holds the ball on the surface for predictable roll, while the dense 10,500 tufts/m² foundation resists foot-traffic wear around the cup.

Model Pile Height Yarn Density Gauge Stitch Rate Backing Colors
Golf Flat Curly Sunny V1 15 mm PE monofilament 10,500 tufts/m² 3/4″ 20/10 cm PP + mesh + PP (PU optional) Field green
Golf Flat Curly Sunny V2 15 mm PE monofilament 10,500 tufts/m² 3/4″ 20/10 cm PP + mesh + PP Apple green

Roll sizes: 4 × 25 m or 2 × 25 m (V1 max width 5 m); V2 available in 2 × 50 m. Cup inserts, fringe panels and undulation shaping are project-level customization options. Full datasheets provided with your quotation.

Surface Design

Engineering the Backyard Short Game

A backyard putting green lives in a different environment than a resort course. It shares space with patios, play sets and garden beds. The design challenge is fitting a professional-grade surface into a residential footprint without sacrificing the ball behavior that makes practice worthwhile.

Relyir’s 15 mm curled-yarn construction sits at the sweet spot for residential greens: short enough to deliver fast, true rolls; dense enough to handle the repeated foot traffic of a golfer walking the same line over and over. The curl in the fiber creates a textured surface that grips the ball slightly, preventing the skidding you get on bare plastic.

Undulation is where backyard greens come alive. Our panels are cut to follow the contours of your base, and installers can shape subtle breaks into the compacted sub-base before the turf goes down — giving you slopes and tiers that challenge your read.

Drainage is the other half of the equation. Every Relyir putting green roll ships with perforated backing, so rainwater passes through into the stone base rather than pooling. In climates with heavy rainfall, the optional PU coating adds an extra moisture barrier on the backing side.

The best backyard greens are designed around how you practice — not just how they look. Cup placement, fringe transitions and approach-shot zones all shape the experience.

For homeowners who want more than straight putts, we supply fringe turf (longer pile for chipping practice), sand bunkers with contrasting fiber colors, and multiple cup positions routed through a single green surface. Every element is customizable at the factory before shipping.

Factory Direct from Jiangsu

Eight Production Steps Under One Roof

Relyir has manufactured artificial grass in Jiangsu since 2006. Every step — from raw PE pellets to finished putting green rolls — runs on-site, which is how we control quality and hold pricing 30–50% below international equivalents.

All eight production stages are managed in-house, eliminating the quality gaps that arise when compounding, tufting and coating happen in separate facilities. The automated sports turf line, commissioned in 2015, lifted production capacity by 150% and tightened consistency across orders.

For backyard putting green projects, we cut panels to your specified dimensions, tuft cup holes at your chosen positions, and can integrate fringe borders in contrasting pile heights — all before the rolls leave the factory. The export team has shipped to more than 500 customers across 50+ countries since 2009.

  • 20 years of manufacturing since founding in 2006 by Mr. Wang.
  • 12,000 m² facility — warehouse and workshop under one quality system.
  • Custom panel cutting — cup positions, fringe and contours at the factory.
  • Full export support — documentation, sampling and logistics coordination.

Installation Build-Up

Four Steps to a Backyard Green

A residential putting green is a layered system. We supply the turf and share build-up guidance so your installer achieves the ball speed and surface consistency you want.

1

Excavation and Base

Remove topsoil to a depth of 80–120 mm. Compact a crushed aggregate base with a slight crown for drainage — this is where undulation and slope are shaped.

2

Weed Barrier

Lay a geotextile membrane over the compacted base to prevent weed growth while allowing water to pass through to the drainage layer below.

3

Turf Laying and Seaming

Roll out the putting green turf, seam panels with adhesive and seam tape, and secure edges with galvanized nails or adhesive. Cut cup holes at marked positions.

4

Sand Infill and Brushing

Apply fine silica sand (2–5 kg/m²) and brush it into the pile. Sand weight stabilizes the turf and tunes the ball speed — more sand slows the green, less sand speeds it up.

Maintenance for Consistent Play

Backyard putting greens need minimal but regular attention. Brush the surface weekly with a stiff broom to keep fibers upright and sand evenly distributed. Remove leaves and debris promptly to prevent moss or algae buildup in shaded areas.

Periodic sand top-up — once or twice a year depending on usage — keeps the ball speed consistent. The UV-stabilized PE fibers resist fading and degradation under continuous sun exposure across all climate zones.

  • Perforated backing for vertical drainage
  • UV-stabilized PE fibers rated for continuous outdoor exposure
  • Light sand infill tunes stimp speed

Questions

Backyard Putting Green FAQ

Answers to the questions homeowners ask most often before installing a backyard practice green.

Can’t find your answer?

Our technical team responds within 12 hours.

Ask Us Directly
How much space do I need for a backyard putting green?

A single-hole practice green works in as little as 10–15 m². A multi-hole green with chipping fringe typically runs 30–80 m². We cut panels to your available space, so the green fits around existing landscaping, patios and structures.

What stimp speed can I expect?

With 15 mm curled yarn and light sand infill (2–3 kg/m²), expect stimp readings in the 9–11 range — comparable to a well-maintained resort green. Adding more sand slows the pace; reducing sand speeds it up. We recommend starting light and adjusting to your preference.

Can I practice chipping and bunker shots too?

Yes. We supply fringe panels in longer pile heights (35–60 mm from our landscaping series) that transition from the putting surface, giving you a realistic approach zone. Sand bunkers with contrasting fiber can also be integrated into the design.

How does drainage work in heavy rain?

Every Relyir putting green roll ships with perforated backing — drainage holes punched during our dedicated perforating step. Water passes through the turf into the compacted aggregate base, which carries it away through the crown slope. The green is playable shortly after rain stops.

What is the lifespan of a backyard putting green?

With normal residential use and basic maintenance, Relyir putting green turf holds its playing characteristics for 10–15 years. UV-stabilized PE fibers resist fading, and the reinforced backing prevents seam separation under temperature cycling.

Does Relyir ship small orders for residential projects?

Yes. While our standard rolls are 4 × 25 m or 2 × 25 m, we cut to order and ship the exact panel sizes your project needs. Small residential orders are welcome — contact us with your dimensions for a quotation.
